A veterinary practice earns through consultations and procedures, dispenses medicines at a margin under real competitive pressure, carries significant stock, collects a large share of its income from insurers, and increasingly sells recurring health plans that are paid for a year before the treatment happens.
None of that is unusual to us and all of it changes how the accounts should be built. A generalist will produce a technically correct set of accounts for a practice like yours and leave you no better informed than you were.
The other half is transactional. Around 60 per cent of UK practices are now owned by large groups. Whether you intend to sell to one, compete with one or resist one, the financial questions are the same, and they need someone who has seen the deals.
