Veterinary Practice Sale Readiness Score

Buyers examine the same areas in every practice purchase. Score yours against them, honestly, and see where the gaps are while you still have time to close them.

Thirteen Questions

Answer honestly rather than optimistically. A buyer will.

Quality of management accounts

Whether a buyer can see how the practice trades during the year, not just at the year end.

Revenue visibility by stream and fee earner

Whether income can be split by consultation, procedure, dispensing, plan and by individual vet.

Normalised EBITDA

Whether adjusted earnings have been calculated with an evidenced schedule of adjustments.

Owner dependency

How much clinical income and how many client relationships sit with the owner personally.

Clinical team stability

Whether the rota is filled by permanent staff with contracts and reasonable tenure.

Employment contracts and documentation

Whether every member of staff has a current signed contract and status is documented for locums.

Property and lease position

Security of tenure, remaining term, and whether an owner-held property has a formal lease at market rent.

Stock records

Whether stock is counted on a consistent method and the recorded position matches the shelf.

Pricing consistency and documentation

Whether fees follow a documented structure, with discounts controlled and recorded.

Compliance documentation

Practice Standards, medicines records, waste, health and safety and readiness for CMA transparency requirements.

Client concentration

How much income depends on a small number of clients, yards, farms or referring practices.

Branch or department performance visibility

Whether each site or department can be shown as profitable in its own right.

Succession and handover plan

Whether there is a plan for what happens to the owner role and the client relationships after a sale.

Your Readiness

Enter your figures and the results will appear here.

This produces an indicative readiness band from your own answers. It is not a valuation, it does not tell you what your practice is worth, and it cannot see your accounts. A buyer will form their own view from evidence rather than from a self-assessment.

Turn the Score Into a Plan

The weakest areas are where the price is decided. We will look at your actual position, tell you what each gap is likely to cost you at sale, and set out the order to fix them in.
